INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Comic Artist Reference Library. I originally created this as a place to store artist's images that inspire me when doing my own comic book work. Hopefully it will be useful to you as well. The nature of this site is not to include every comic book artist ever known, and there are dozens if not hundreds of tremendously talented artists whose work will not be featured here, but my goal in being so selective is to help others to discover artists and images that will help unlock their own creativity and introduce them to work they were perhaps unfamiliar with before. This type of thing is always a "work in progress", so please feel free to e-mail me suggestions, pictures, or anything that might help it to be more useful. Thanks. -Eric

Tony Millionaire

Tony Millionaire is one of the very few individuals who walks within the less than common realm of surreal fairy tales, yet Millionaire has the abilities to incorporate a sense of understated contemporary relevance. His stories often have a strangely humorous dark edge to them, as many fairy tales do, but because Millionaire's stories are new to us and not ingrained into the fabric of our story culture, this spooky element seems more pronounced with a wonderfully fun cast of characters. Millionaires drawing style hearkens back to the often overlooked masters of of early 20th century illustration, names like that of John Tenniel, N.C. Wyeth, John R. Neil, and Arthur Rackham. The only other well known living artist that comes to mind with a somewhat similar sensibility is film maker Hayao Miyazaki. I applaud Millionaire for taking on aspects of a beautiful and less than common artistic tradition, yet adding a unique humor and unpredictability to his work that makes it somewhat truly unique and special in today's comic art world.
